When upgrading your OEM intercooler to a larger and better unit you need to choose what to do with the old one.  Some vendors have you keep the factory unit in place to support the radiator assembly, others (such as the Exceladyne Kit) provide you with new support brackets that allow you to completely remove the factory cooler from the car.  However, after removal there is a large gap between the primary cooling fan and the radiator.  This block off plate installs directly in place of the OEM intercooler and ensures proper airflow through your car's radiator which keeps temperatures in line on hot days or during track events.
